For a number of years now, November has also been widely called Movember, in support of promoting Mens' Health, and increasing awareness of issues such as testicular and prostate cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
November is also Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult to diagnose but common forms of cancer. The concept of an awareness month or day is to help increase the public's understanding of a disease or condition, and to improve early recognition of symptoms, with a view to encouraging people to seek help, diagnoses and treatment where appropriate.
New pancreatic cancer diagnoses sit at about 11500 new cases a year in the UK, effecting males and females equally and is responsible for around 9558-10200 deaths a year, making it the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK. Overall, survival rates are low with only 5.7 - 7.3 % surviving 5 years. And, early detection is vital, for the person to be able to benefit from treatment or to be suitable for surgery. In 2022, only 26% of cases in England, with a known stage were detected and diagnosed early. But 37% of cases are preventable, indicating certain lifestyle choices as a higher risk factor.
We've all been affected by cancer, either experiencing it ourselves, or a family member or friend. Understanding how cancer occurs, how it develops and progresses is how we learn to manage and treat it. Without knowledge and research, we cannot possibly improve early detection rates and time to diagnosis. Without research, we cannot possibly find appropriate treatment therapies or who knows, maybe one day a cure.
On November 14th we are holding a fundraising event at our Snaith clinic in support of Cancer Research. The day includes the chance to receive a mini facial, using some of our beautiful all natural Tropic products from our qualified Facialist, Emma. Our health coach will be there to talk all things nutrition and lifestyle, and our in-house Reflexologist will be giving taster sessions. You will have the opportunity to enter our raffle for some fantastic prizes, and refreshments will be available to keep you hydrated.
