At Action First Physiotherapy, we are privileged to work with some truly inspiring individuals, and Anne's recent achievement is no exception. In June 2026, Anne travelled to Tarragona, Spain, to represent Great Britain at the European Triathlon Championships. Competing in the 75–79 age group, she not only completed the demanding standard-distance event but also claimed a gold medal in her category. Her journey is a testament to dedication, perseverance, and the rewards of consistent training and support. We're delighted to share Anne's story in her own words.
Dear Kirsteen
On Sunday 14th June I took part in the European Triathlon Championships in Tarragona Spain. I had qualified to take part in this event at Southport triathlon in May 2025. It was a standard distance triathlon consisting of 1500 metre swim; 40 km bike ride and then a 10km run.
I had moved up to be in the 75–79-year age group. I discovered that I was the oldest GB athlete competing in this event and the oldest women in the standard distance event. I had so much wonderful encouragement from lots of other athletes.
The swim was in the harbour at Tarragona, and the water was clear and calm . We had the pleasure of swimming past Steven Speilberg's enormous yacht. It must have been the reason I had my best swim ever in 38 minutes.
Out of the water and onto the bike to cycle 40 km. A 2-lap course along the coast with 2 very steep and sharp ascents. It was a gorgeous ride with beautiful views . I loved the cycle.
Off the bike and onto the run. 10 km run. It was 4 laps around the dock area. By this time, the temperature was heating up and heading towards 30 degrees!! I stopped at every aid station to pour water over my head and to drink. The heat was energy sapping.
It was absolute bliss to finish in 3 hours and 43 minutes. I was the 1st ( and only ) Female vet 75-79 and I was delighted to win a gold medal . I had a superb support crew with me who were all former triathletes and they all gave me a tremendous cheer over that finish line. I was ecstatic.
It’s been quite a journey and it has involved lots of hard work and endless training. The work had to be put in to get over that finish line.
I’ve been consistently training over a long period. I have also been a regular at Action First Physiotherapy for regular sports massages. These sports massages have been invaluable in keeping me flexible and mobile. There have been injuries along the way, but I always knew that Kirsteen and the team at Action First were just a phone call away . Their help and support has been invaluable and have enabled me to keep moving. Kirsteen has always been so supportive and encouraging and has always believed in me and encouraged me to keep going to achieve this gold medal. Thank you team Action First – you are the best!
Anne
